Nursing cat has a lump on her teat after giving birth. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

She is not a pet cat to be exact. She used to live in open and I used to give her feed, so she started coming regularly to my house. I don't know her exact age but she is probably a year old. She gave birth to kitten in the last week of April. She had been missing from past 2 weeks and she returned with kittens 2 days back and I noticed a lump of flesh? hanging from on of her teats. What could it be??? Please help. Is it a serious condition? I tried to take her to a vet but she won't come near

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes this looks serious, it could be a wound, but it could also be a severe mastitis. I recommend trying to get a large dog kennel, and putting food inside, and coaxing her inside with the food, and then closing the door in order to get her to the vet. You can also try getting a thick blanket and throwing it over her and then wrapping her up and putting that in a large box, and slowly pulling the blanket out (so she isn't sitting in the hot box wrapped in a hot blanket). Do your best to get her to a vet. Best of luck with Deb, I hope she feels better soon!
