Is a 30-minute daily walk enough for my dog's overall health?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 7 months old

He weigh 38kg..so is once a day walk for 30 minutes is ok for him? He is trained to do potty urine inside bathroom flooring whenever he feel like he goes himself to the bathroom & do it..rest he love spending his day like playing himself and sleeping and sometimes he do whinning when he is not getting things done so my question is once a walk daily in morning is sufficient according to him? Can less walk calls more life threat diseases ? Though I know it depends from dog to dog.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! How many times he needs to be walked outside depends on the dog. If once a day works for him and he is at a healthy weight then that is fine. If you think he may need to lose some weight then more frequent walks such as twice or three times a day would be better. Best of luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that amount of time would be great, especially for a typically athletic and active German Shepherd. In terms of the area you walk him at, you may vary to keep it fun and interesting for him. Avoid walking him for that long if it is too hot outside as he may get too warm. Offer him water at different intervals. Good luck and have a good evening!
