Is Taste of the Wild dog food linked to heart issues? Should I switch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 88 lbs

Hi, today I visited my vet with my dog and I was asked which dog food I feed my dogs when I said I feed my dogs 'Taste of the Wild' my vet told me that the dog food causes problems with the heart. Is this true? And should i continue giving my dogs taste of the wild? Thanks.

This is true. Vets are seeing an increase in dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs fed grain free diets, and Taste of the Wild is one of those diets seen in the FDA investigation of this link. I would change Thunder's food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I feed my own dogs Iams, and they love it. Best of luck.
