My dog chewed Yucca root. Is Yucca toxic to dogs? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 23 lbs

How toxic is the root portion of the Yucca tree to a dog? (I caught him chewing on a freshly trimmed Yucca tree today)?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Roger. The root of the plant is toxic as well, and it causes nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If enough is eaten, it can cause weakness, confusion, and even seizures. Keep a close eye on him, and if you see any of these symptoms, take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.
