My dog won't walk, yelps when touched, and won't eat. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed

My dog Peaches is female, 5-7 years old, not neutered, has never had puppies and is definitely not pregnant. She’s been acting strangely, she’s been very reserved, tale between her legs hasn’t walked since her walk this morning. She lets out a yelp if I touch a certain spot on her legs. Not sure that spot is. She also hasn’t eaten since this morning it’s now 7:28pm. My mother suggested she ate a wasp or bee as she does commonly attack wasps or bees.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Peaches. If she ate a wasp or bee, I would except her muzzle to be quite swollen. She will need to see a veterinarian as she seems uncomfortable. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and back pain. Her veterinarian will examine to determine if this is the case. If so, she may need x-rays. Pain medications, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers are commonly prescribed. In the meantime, keep her quiet and carry her if necessary. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!
