What's wrong with my 10-year-old dog? Can I treat her at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boerboel | Female | spayed | 7 years and 8 months old

Can you please tell me what is wrong with our dog. She is 10 years and this started more or less a month ago. How can we treat it at home?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You cannot treat this at home without first knowing what it is. This may be an allergic reaction, an infection or an inflammatory process of some kind. This would warrant taking biopsies of this to look into it more closely or at least treating for possible allergies. I highly recommend you consider taking Skyla to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and start therapy so that then you can treat her at home. Best of luck!
