My 6-7 month old pup has developed a rash around his groin. Is this serious? What is it? Can/should I put human Benadryl or cortisone cream on it until he can see a vet?

Do not put any cream on it. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed, and dogs do tend to lick these creams off. You can try giving him an oatmeal to see if that helps. Edgar may have puppy pyoderma, which is a skin infection. I'd see if you can take him into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.
