Could my horse's mouth blisters be from a mineral block allergy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Male | neutered | 18 years and 6 months old

I asked a question 2 days ago about my horse that developed blisters on his lip/nose and tongue(his tongue ended up going raw). The blisters are scabbed over and tongue is healing but I’m still trying to find out what caused this. The only thing I could think of that I changed was that I gave him a deer mineral block. He did lick the block; is it possible he’s allergic to the block?First 2 pics are when the blisters showed up 3 is after scabbing

I highly doubt he is allergic to the mineral block but of course, anything is possible. These types of blisters can be from many different things: sunburn, trauma, and toxic plant contact are the most common but they can also be due to some serious diseases especially if he has blisters inside his mouth. If no blisters actually inside the mouth I would not be worried. I suggest you remove the mineral block for now. You can always re-introduce the block in a month or so and if he blisters up again then you have your answer to whether or not something in the block is irritating him.
