Why is my dog yelping instead of barking but still eating and drinking?

My little guy tries to bark, but yelps instead, he will eat treats and soft foods, and is drinking water. Just curious as to what could cause this? Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 10 lbs

It’s hard to know for sure without observing the behavior and being able to palpate his throat. I recommend to record the behavior and then make an appointment for an exam. There could be something stuck in his throat or a mass causing pain. Best of luck.
