What signs should I watch for after my dog was sprayed by a skunk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 70 lbs

Hello, my dog got sprayed by a skunk last night. I gave her a bath and she seems to be acting normal. Is there anything I need to be mindful? She is still playful and is eating normal but I want to keep an eye out for signs if she isn't okay. Thanks!

There should be no ill effects apart from the smell :) The only problems we will usually see from skunk spraying is irritation of the eyes if they get sprayed in the eyes - so if you notice any squinting of the eyes you should wash them out through this eye wash and/or eye gel. You may be able to purchase these at your local Petco. If not, you can buy online.
