My Chihuahua has skin bumps and is producing milk, not pregnant. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 8 months old | 11 lbs

I have a Chihuahua who I have just recently started noticing getting little tiny bumps that feel like cysts over her body, a couple on her legs and some on her ears they're really small. I only noticed them by petting her. I also just noticed on her right ear there seems to be a red patch with bumps sort of looking like a bruise order but it won't go away with cleaning. Shes then producing milk off and on for the past couple months even though she's not pregnant. Dont know if its related.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bella. She could be having these bumps from food or environmental skin allergies that could be associated with the current season. The milk is likely a sign from a false pregnancy and she should likely be spayed. If Bella has been licking or scratching her feet or ears recently, this would be most consistent with allergies. You should have her evaluated for this and her possible false pregnancy. Having the false pregnancy, may be making her more likely to develop allergies and thus the two could be related. Please contact your veterinarian to have Bella examined. Hope this helps and best of luck.
