My pet mouse is very nervous and afraid. How can I calm her down?

Updated On December 4th, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Mouse | Female | unspayed

My sister has a female mouse who seems very nervous. She hasn't been harmed in any way, but it is apparent that she's afraid. What can I do to calm her down? She doesn't seem to trust anybody, and will not stay still. (She's in a 'playground' in the photo attached) Thank you! All answers appreciated. -Claire

Thanks for reaching out about Hannah and including a photo. These small animals can be very skiddish, and time is needed to develop the trust of companionship. Continue to offered small treats by hand, trying to coax her out of hiding to accept. Once she learns no harm is meant, things should progress better. Slow quiet movement, in a dimly lit area is best. Good luck.
