My cat has a nose bump, vet unsure. When should I consider euthanasia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 years and 6 months old

My cat has this bump on his nose. Sometimes it bleeds if he irritates it. We went to the vet and they couldn't tell if it was a polyp or a tumor. They suggested we go to a specialist but we can't afford it. We're thinking about euthanasia but don't know when the right time is. He's had good and bad days about 50/50. So we're not sure if his quality of life is still good or not. Should we consider euthanasia soon? I'd just like to know some options we should think of.

On a white cat, there is always a concern that a bump like this could be a squamous cell carcinoma. I'm sorry Fatcat is having good days and bad. I would make a list of five things he loved to do, and when he's no longer doing at least two of them, his quality of life has declined to where euthanasia should be considered. You can also speak to his vet to see what they feel his quality of life is, and they can advise you if it's time to say goodbye or not. I'm sorry you are facing this choice, and I hope this helps.
