My rabbit is cold, not eating, and laying on her side. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 20 days old | 2.5 lbs

My rabbit was found laying on her side. We thought she was dead. We took her to the vet and she is now in intensive care. She’s cold, laying on her side. She has been drinking because she is hydrated but apparently she hasn’t eaten. I feed my rabbit twice a day and I did notice a small loss in weight. I was wondering if I could get a slight idea of what is going on since I’m 3 hours away from my vet where she is currently. She is a 5 month old black Dutch rabbit.

Unfortunately i cannot know what has caused this in your rabbit based on these symptoms but the most probable cause would be gut stasis which is a very common condition in rabbits. according to your description she is in a very bad condition and there is a high chance she will not recover from this.
