Why is my rescued husky puppy so thin and still has chronic diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 32 lbs

We rescued a husky back in late april. He has had diarrhea on and off for more than a month and I cannot figure out what is wrong. I just took him to the vet to have him dewormed and 4 days later he pooped solid then liquid. The two poops were probably 10 minutes apart. He’s very thin for his age (between 6mos and 1 year). He has gained 2lbs since i’ve had him, but he eats for a 40lb dog. He eats chicken and rice 4health from tractor supply. He was 32lbs when i took him to the vet

Submit a stool sample to definitively rule out intestinal parasites, even if he has been dewormed. With certain parasites, it can take several dewormings before an infection is cleared. Place Aspen on a monthly medication for heartworm/intestinal parasites. Consider submitting blood and fecal samples to diagnose malabsorption or maldigestion issues. Also, discuss allergies, allergy testing, hydrolyzed diets and food elimination trials with your veterinarian. A veterinary probiotic (FortiFlora, ProStora or ProViable) can be used to promote gut health.
