My dog has a growing ear hematoma and is lethargic. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 3 months old | 21 lbs

I’ve noticed my dog has an ear hematoma. It keeps getting bigger and now when we try to pick him up to help him into the bed or on the couch he yelps. I’ve also noticed him being a little lethargic. He’s really usually energetic.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marley. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. An ear hematoma is unlikely to resolve on its own. Most patients require surgery to fix the problem. It is likely very painful to him. He will feel much better having it properly addressed. I hope this information helps!
