Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 21 lbs
My Cavalier has been on Gabapentin for syringomyelia for about 3 years with no issues. however, she was just prescribed Theophylline for possible COPD. This morning she is very lethargic and not eating or drinking. Is this a possible side effect of Theophylline, or is there a possible drug interaction?

Hello, sorry to hear about Ginger. Theophylline does have several interactions but gabapentin is not listed. Additionally, a primary side effect of this medication are GI distubances such as a decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. These GI signs usually resolve with long term administration, however, Ginger may need anti-nausea medications in order to get her to eat some food. Please contact your vetrinarian and inform then about her side effects so that they may prescribe medications to help with her GI side effects. Hope this helps and best of luck.
