Are house accidents & increased thirst normal after dog neutering?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 20 lbs

Hello, I neutered my male dog 5 days ago, and since then he peed in the house more than 5 times. Before that he never had accidents in the house. And he's drinking more water than usual. Is all of this the side effect of the operation? What should I do? Thank you

Hello. I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble after your dog's surgery. Occasionally there will be after-effects from surgery that can include pain, increased thirst and accidents like you are describing. The increased thirst is likely contributing to the increased need to urinate. If this continues, I would have your veterinarian examine him, but it should pass within a few days.
