Why does my dog have pimple-like bumps all over his body?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I’ve been finding bumps (see picture for example) all over my dog’s body. These bumps look and feel similar to pimples but I want to make sure that I have nothing to worry about.

These bumps could be related to several issues, but the most common are fleas, or bacterial skin infection. Some dogs are actually allergic to fleas and will have irritated, red scabs where they have been bitten. This could also be a localized staph infection which is also quite common. I would have a vet look to determine the cause and course of treatment.

Congratulations on your new puppy! Pimple like bumps often indicate a skin infection. Skin infections are quite common in puppies as their immune system is not fully developed. Other potential causes for bumps in puppies include fleas, mange or an allergic reaction. You can try bathing her in an oatmeal dog shampoo; however, if the bumps are not improving, Layla is itchy or the rash seems to be getting worse, she should be seen by a veterinarian.
