My dog ate her doggie diaper. Cotton in poop. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 60 lbs

Came home to my dog and a note from the babysitter that my dog (Cersei) ripped up her doggie diaper (she is in heat). Babysitter didn’t change her diaper. Took Cersei out to potty and found the cotton in her poop. Some of it did get stuck at first. Will she be okay? What should I do? Do I still need to take her in to see a vet? She is a little over 1.5 years old. She’s a pit bull.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Cersei. I love her name, I’m a big fan of Game of Thrones (expect for the last season). Anyway, cotton shoud pass without problem. I wouldn’t rush her into a vet now. Monitor her, and if you see vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.
