My hamster has been huddling in the corner and has a little bit of diarrhea. He is eating just fine and drinks only occasionally. he isn’t very active at night like he usually is and he sleeps a lot. Is there somthing I can do at home to help treat him? I don’t have the money for a vet bill unfortunately

Keep the cage clean and warm. Keep him as stress free as possible. Stress plays a large role in illness or infection in hamsters. Discontinue feeding any fruits or treats until his stool is normal. If he doesn't begin to improve in a day or two, then he should be seen by your veterinarian.

Hello. The first thing you need to do is have a fecal sample analyzes by your veterinarian. Do not stress Tobias out by bringing him to the vet, just drop a sample off for the stool analysis. Then, go from there. If you are feeding him a predominately seed diet, you need to switch him to a lab/rodent chow. Go very slow in switching him over. To increase fluid intake, offer him pureed vegetable baby foods. If the stool analysis is negative for anything significant, then you may need to have him examined for a good exam, including an oral one, & possible further treatment. Hope he is feeling better soon & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
