My dog's eye is red and swollen after vet visit. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 18 days old | 53.7 lbs

So my dogs one eye is red and he isn't able to open it. I have him a bath today and feel that either it's the shampoo or he has hit something in his eye. I sprayed a sterile liquid ND also took him to the vet and he sprayed soemfhing in his eyes saying that he will be alright by morning. His eyes are still swollen and I'm kinda worried. Will he be alright

I recommend calling your veterinarian. When pets do not respond to treatment as expected, that can mean that the real reason for the illness was not discovered. I suspect the veterinarian will need to examined Aura again and check for a foreign object trapped under the eye lid or uveitis. Call the vet today. Best of luck.

Red, swollen eyes can be a symptom of allergies as well. Since Jersey does not do well going to the vet I think it would be ok to keep an eye on it for the time being. If the eye becomes worse, he's keeping it closed, or there is some discharge then you will need to take him in to have the eye checked out. Continue giving the medication you vet gave you. Best of luck.
