My kitten and family are itching. What OTC remedies can I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 4 months and 27 days old | 3 lbs

Our family of 4 have a 5 month old kitten. We are all itching and the cat is always itching. I think the cat has some sort of burrowing skin mite, which we can't see. Are there over the counter remedies for the cat? Poor thing is always itching and flaking. Thank you

I agree and would be very suspicious of scabies, fleas or ringworm. All of these conditions can affect humans as well. The flea will respond to a product like frontline that you can purchase over the counter. However no over-the-counter products are as effective against scabies or ringworm. I recommend to have the kittens examined by a veterinarian to determine the exact cause. This way they will all receive appropriate treatment and you may need to see your own human doctor. Scabies is often treated with a prescription called revolution or advantage multi. Ringworm is treated with a special dip and oral medication. I hope this helps.
