My dog ate too much, now spitting blood. Is his GI tract damaged?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Catahoula Leopard Dog | Male | neutered | 80 lbs

I posted a previous question about my dog continuously throwing up due to him helping himself to our food container and today it’s different. It’s not throw up anymore, it’s spit up and it contains bright red & plain red blood in it. Is it possible he severely messed up his GI tract by overeating? (I do have plans of taking him to the vet today but my husband has our car and sadly dog ambulances don’t exist)

Some dogs can develop pancreatitis or HGE after a change in food (or quantity of food). If this is the case, the vet may recommend hospitalizing Kojack for treatment, and they will likely recommend testing, to include a CBC, blood chemistry, and x-rays to determine the severity of his current condition. https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/hemorrhagic-gastroenteritis/
