My dog is retching but not throwing up. Should I be worried?

Hello! It's currently 12 in the morning, so excuse any lack of details. I awoke to my dog retching and he continued to retch as I tried to help him pass any pressumable vomit. But nothing came out. Although he is sound asleep shortly after this, I'm very worried - I couldn't tell if he was larthargic due to illness, or just because he's sleepy. - Stomach did not seem swollen. - Breathing seems normal. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 16 lbs

Hi, I would definitely have him checked over to make sure that he is comfortable and resting and that he is not just getting progressively worse. Offer small amounts little and often. Unproductive retching can be a sign of something potentially serious. Hope all goes well !
