Why is my puppy lethargic and coughing after ear mite treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 29 days old | 64 lbs

Do ear mites cuase lethargy?. My pup was diagnosed with ear mites yesterday and he was given his ear drops. Today he is still lethargic and when I gave him his ear drops he became more lethargic and just wanted to sleep. Is this normal? Also coughs from time to time

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lethargy is not typically caused by ear mites. I would think the lethargy may be related to the coughing. Coughing can be a sign of many conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good night!
