Is my neutered cat mad because my unspayed female is in heat?

Cats can have very strange behavior while in heat. This is probably why the male cats are acting strange around her. My best recommendation is to have your cat spayed as soon as possible. The female needs to be in heat in order to allow the male to breed. If you do not want to breed Oreo then it is best to neuter him. I hope this answers your question. I wish you the best!

Hello, I would agree that her aggression means she probably does not like him or is coming out of heat and not interested in his advances. Keeping them separated when they cannot be monitored may be best to keep them from fighting. It is not likely because of a female in heat. What you describe sounds more like he is running away from an itch or pain. Some cats act like that when they have fleas. If you are not doing flea prevention, it may be a good idea to do so. You may also want to check if there are any painful areas on his body (especially where he licks himself). Also check for flea poop (part the hair in the area near the base of the tail on his back and abdomen for little black specs). If you find little black specs of poop, flea prevention is in order. If you find an area that hurts him, you should take him to a veterinarian for an exam.

If the two females cats are not spayed I suggest you do that as soon as possible. That could sure be the reason for the tension. Not only that but if the females are not spayed and are going outside they will get pregnant guaranteed as soon as they go into heat. Usually the first heat cycle is around 6-7 months (so now). Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her. He could be reacting to unspayed female cats in the neighborhood though who are in heat. This can result in the symptoms you have described. Neutering him will help if this is the case.
