My cat is sick and not eating. Hairball? Should I give a laxative?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Snowshoe | Female | spayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

My cat, Snowdrop seems sick. Her symptoms are lethargy, vomiting, and decreased appetite. She has not eaten much in 3 days so we took her to our Vet today. They did a blood test and a urinalysis, and they felt her stomach. They did not find anything on the blood test, but we are waiting for the urinalysis results. Could it be a hairball? She has very long hair. We thought maybe it was making her sick. Would it be a bad idea to give her a laxitive?

I'm sorry Snowdrop is so sick! You did the right thing by taking her into the vet. I would not give her a laxative without speaking to her vet first. Without seeing her in person, I can't say if it's safe to do or not. Give her vet a call. It may be a hairball, and I do hope she feels better soon!
