Why is my dog lethargic, not eating, or walking after a dog attack?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 17 lbs

Hi, My dog bailey was attacked by a pit bull on 5 days ago. She has a puncture wound and a more serve gash. We took her to the vet and she got 4 staples, antibiotics and pain meds. She is typically a very peppy, happy and energetic puppy but she has been very lethargic, not eating, said, etc. is this normal? Her would seems to be scabbing up and doesn’t look swollen but she seems off. She doesn’t want to walk or eat and she’s usually very excited to do both. Is this all normal?

Its hard to say without an examination. Bailey could be sore or it could be a sign of infection. It could also be that the medications are upsetting her stomach. I recommend to play it safe and call your veterinarian. They may want to examine her again. I hope she heals quickly!
