Could my dog's painful, swollen dew claw be why he's not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old

My dog currently is not eating enough food per day. Usually he eats around four cups of dry dog food a day, but lately, he either skip a meal or won't even finish the first meal. He had hurt his dew claw about a week ago and it is scaling and swollen. He often yelps when it makes contact with anything. Could his loss of appetite be due to pain? Or could it just be that he is tired of the food we give him?

I suspect this could be related to pain and possibly an infection with the description of the swollen toe. I recommend to have him examined today. If there is an infection, this could get worse quickly. He may get antibiotics, as well as pain relievers. Wookiee should also be wearing an Elizabethan collar at all times to prevent him from licking the toe and making it worse. Best of luck.
