Why does my American Bulldog have red oily skin lumps? Are they mites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | 2 years and 5 months old | 94 lbs

Hi my American bulldog 2yr old keeps getting small oily type lumps on top of his skin, usually I can scrape them off with my finger nail while I distract him with something, they are deep red in colour and it never seems to bother him, I have had mite problem due to the long damp grassy areas he runs in and was wondering could it be connected. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You may be referring to infected pustules. This is something that is typically treated with anti-microbial shampoos. However, this depends if they truly are due to an infection and the extent of it. For that reason, I highly recommend you check in with your veterinarian for a physical exam prior to starting any therapies. They can check for an infection and start medications depending on the findings. Have a good night!
