Moving with a cat: How to introduce her to resident cats and a dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years old | 12.5 lbs

I’m not worried about my dog but I am worried about my cat. Due to my health I am moving in with my parents So they can help me while we attempt to figure out how to make me a better. The issue is that they already have two cats they are about 11 or 12 years old. My plan was to make it so my cat can only be in my room at least for the first month. But if we do that she will not have a safe area away from the dog so she can be alone. How can I make this change earlier on her.

You must make sure Kitkat is protected from any harm either from your dog or from the other cats. Here is a link which may help: https://www.petcoach.co/article/bringing-home-a-new-cat-or-kitten/ If your dog is not trustworthy around Kitkat, it is safest not to leave it in your room since Kitkat cannot escape. The dog may need to stay somewhere else in the house or with a friend until Kitkat is safe and situated in the house. I hope this helps.
