Is it safe for my cat to live in a barn or be an outdoor cat?

Hi! I had a cat for two years in California while I was attending college. I left my door cracked at all times and she’d be outside most of the day and come in at night to sleep with me until the morning.I would bring her home to my parents house and we had a barn. The first summer she stayed in the house but my mom kept her mainly in my room and the second summer I decided to put her in a barn while I was away. My mom would feed her consistenly and well, but I still wonder if it was okay to do

As long as your cat was protected from harm, well fed and protected from the environment, then she is likely fine. All cats are different, some may welcome a change of scenery while others may not.
