How many pellets daily for a red-eared slider that seems hungry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Turtle | Female

My red eared slider is almost 1 year old. Her shell is about 2 inches long. How many pellets should I feed her a day. At the present I give her 5 pellets. But she’s not satisifed the way I feel it. Soon as she sees me reaching for the pellet can, she starts beating the wall of the tank. Even after she eats she continues to do throughout day intermittently. How many pellets should I give her

Thanks for reaching out about Shelley. Don't think there is a specific answer as metabolism depends on so many variables: water temperature, age, sex, and other parameters. But it sounds as if she is still hungry and recommend feeding twice daily. Monitor body score for becoming overweight. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Hope. Unfortunately a precise answer can not be given. Nutritional needs are dependent on multiple parameters including size, age, sex, environmental temperature, season and other physiological needs. The best idea would be to monitor body condition, weight and activity. Good luck.
