Pet's info: Dog | Flat-Coated Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 76 lbs
My 10year old flat coated retriever constantly pants. Even at rest, unless hes asleep. I've taken to vet for xrays and they said that sometimes it's normal in older deep cheated breeds. Is that right? I know hes slowing down and having some trouble getting up, possibly hip pain. Could pain be causing it? I have him on glucosamine for 6 months and 120mg aspirin 2x a day.

Poor Bleu. Pain could be causing this panting, but it could also be heart disease. Were x-rays done of his chest and heart? If not, I recommend doing that. I would also discuss with the vet about additional pain medication for him. Best of luck.
