My Shih Tzu puppies eat each other's poop. How do I stop it?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 22 days old | 3 lbs

How do I get my 3-1/2 month old Shihtzu sisters to stop eating each other’s poop. I forgot to add they have a Doggy door to go out on the deck to go potty. So I don’t always see them go out in time to stop the munchies.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Daisy. You have a couple of options to try to control this behavior in your puppies. Hopefully they will outgrow it, but not all will. You can try placing Forbid powder on both of their food. Another option is meat tenderizer on their food. Finally, scooping the poop in the yard as frequently as possible to try to limit their access to it. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While it is not normal, it is not uncommon especially in your dogs. This is often times not an indication to feed them more. Usually they grow out of this behavior. I usually just recommend discouraging this behavior as much as possible and letting them know that it is not ok. Eventually, it will most likely stop on its own. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. This is a very common behavior, although it's one we'd rather discourage! There are a number of supplements that can be added to the food to help make the stool taste bad, which can help discourage the behavior. For helping to eliminate purely behavioral causes of coprophagy, a three step method can be used: 1. Decreaseattractivequalityoffeces • Change in diet can oftentimes be beneficial, switching to a brand with a lower protein content to lower the amount of protein excreted into the feces (which the dog finds palatable). • Commercially available products added to food can decrease the palatability of the feces. Examples include: For-bid®; Deter®; and meat tenderizers. Consult with your veterinarian as to the proper dose to use. 2. Hello,my 5 month shit zu puppy keeps eating her feces ,she has done it before too,but it seems like it is getting worse and worse,i mean it is becoming more frequent.i seriously have no idea how to stop her from doing that?!
Puppies will eat their own stool out of boredom, curiosity or in an attempt to correct a nutritional deficiency. You can use a product called FOR-BID that may prevent this behavior. It is a powder that is sprinkled on food. You can usually get it from your veterinarian. Leash walk her and pick up stool immediately. Restrict her access to areas where there is stool. Puppies will usually outgrow this behavior.
