My kitten sounds congested when purring or sleeping, is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1.5 lbs

We just took in a kitten this past week. I’m assuming she is between 4-5weeks old. I noticed almost immediately she sounded congested. We have a vet appt. tomm. I read a lot of stuff online and I can’t seem to find exact symptoms. She’s energetic, has an appetite, has normal breathing rate, has normal stools, she doesn’t cough or sneeze (or atleast I haven’t heard her), slightly bloated/gassy, the only thing is when she purrs or sleeps she audibly makes crackly/congested sounds When breathing.

Penelope is too cute. If this breathing occurs only when she purrs or sleeps, it may be normal for her. If she was sick, I'd expect the breathing to occur like that all the time. Having her checked out by a vet is best, however.
