My parrot's nails are overgrown and curved. How do I trim them?

Hello Doctor! I,ve a 5 years old Indian ring neck parrot. His nails became too long and shaped like curve that's why he is suffering lot trouble to move in his cage even eating anything with the help of his claw is also very painful for him..kindly tell me how to do for my parrot so that he can move easily in his cage and eat easily with the help of his claw

It would be best to gradually trim back the nails if they are overgrown. You can find bird nail trimmers at a local pet store, or use human ones if you are careful. You will want to look for the quik, or pink blood supply in the nail, and not cut it as it is very painful and will bleed. Having styptic powder or something such as cornstarch on hand is useful to stop any bleeding. Filing the nails and making sure Miththu has the right size perches that are big enough for him to wrap his toes on, but not curl completely around it, can also help his feet feel more comfortable.
