Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 6 months and 30 days old | 15 lbs
Hello, I had a question pertaining to dog food. Luna has tried many different kinds but I have never been able to get to have well formed poops before. When I got her from the shelter at 8 weeks she was on Fromm puppy, then we went petco kind I can't think of the name and it gave a bad stomach. Now she is on nutro and will eat it but get poops are never solid. The very had never said anything but is there another brand we should try? One made and sourced in the usa

Poor Luna! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including a change in diet, bacterial over growth, parasites, something in the diet or other even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. She may need and antibiotic and/or a probiotic. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the new food can be done. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Many commercial diets are too complex and some pets don't do well on them. RC is easily broken down by the body and many pets do well on this diet. If the problem continues, you may need to pursue a proper diet trial with a hydrolyzed protein. I hope Luna starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions!
