My dog has UTI symptoms, on meds. Can I give Uristat for relief?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Vizsla | Female | spayed | 13 years and 10 months old | 60 lbs

Allie has had ongoing symptoms that seem indicative of UTI (Constant squatting to pee- 10+ times in 5 min; frequent accidents inside; as well as alot of blood -and sometimes clots- in her urine. She has been taking Enrofloxacin 3x/day for 6 days and was showing improvement until total regression this evening. Vet wants to follow up Monday. Would Phenazopyridine (Uristat) be safe/effective in alleviating her symptoms in the interim? She is miserable, super stressed, and can't relax at all!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I’m sorry to hear Allie isn’t feeling well. I would not give her any medications not prescribed to her as they could have toxic effects. I would continue to give the antibiotic and definitely follow up with your vet as soon as possible. I ask recommend an x-ray to look for stones in her bladder that could be causing the symptoms. Good luck and kisses to Allie!
