My dog with cancer isn't eating or pooping. Is it time to let go?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male | neutered | 14 years and 5 months old | 8 lbs

My dog has cancer. It's on his throat and possibly elsewhere. He's taking steroids and hemp oil. He completely stopped to eating. We force feed him with a syringe soft food. Also he hasn't pooped for quite some time he doesn't have the energy to make it happen. Something that will make him poop? Like a laxative.? He drinks lots of water however. Is this a waste of time 2 feed him now?

I'm sorry Pig has cancer. He likely isn't eating enough to poop, and it's very concerning you have to force feed him. If you stop feeding him, he will slowly starve to death. In all honestly, it may be time to let him go if you have to force feed him. This isn't a good quality life for him, and letting him go via euthanasia is the kindest option for him. I know this likely isn't what you want to hear, but you do not want him to suffer, which he is if he won't eat. I would take him into a vet immediately to discuss options. Best of luck.
