Kitten diarrhea after deworming: what to do when vet is closed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 24 days old | 1lb

Hi I have a kitten that has been having diarrhea. I believe she has worms but she was just dewormed on June 13 , we have the dewormer medicine from the vet but we were told to give it to her two weeks later. So I’m not sure what to do since it’s the weekend and they are closed.

Poor Mocha. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Thank you for taking in Oreon and his brother! It is common to see mild diarrhea after a deworming. As long as Oreon is acting normally otherwise you can try to offer him a bland diet for a day or two. This would consist of boiled chicken and rice. If his diarrhea persists after a day or two then I would recommend taking him for a recheck with your veterinarian. Also, if he develops any other signs of ill health like vomiting, inappetance, or lethargy I would take him for an exam sooner. I hope this helps! Good luck with your new kittens!
