My cat is freaking out after wearing a new flea collar. What's wrong?

I put a flea collar around my cat and now he'll sit in one spot for a bit then run around almost like freaking out. Hes never worn any collar before and he does have fleas all on him. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 8 lbs

Flea collars are pretty much poor products unless you get a brand like Sentry. I can give you an excellent flea treatment program for Meow Meow, as I recommend stopping using the collar. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck.
