My snake hasn't pooped in weeks. How can I stimulate bowel movements?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a Kenyan Sand Boa named Molly for a few months. She is my first snake, and I was wondering if there is anyway to stimulate bowel movements for snakes? I have not seen her have any since getting her, and I don't know if I should keep feeding her as usual or actively do anything. Her last shed was earlier this month, around June 10th or so. Also, I've noticed a little after she she'd she had a blue/grey spot on her lower back.

Thanks for reaching out about Molly and including photos. A shallow, warm water soak will oftentimes stimulate defecation. This should be for no longer than 5-10 minutes as the water cools and defeats the purpose of cloacal laxity. If you are feeding prey with minimal hair, not a lot that is undigestible to produce feces. If the problem persists or she appears affected, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
