My hamster's private area is swollen after a fall and he can't eat.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Healthy just 2 year old Syrian male hamster jumped out of my hands when I was sitting him down at the top of a flight of carpeted steps. The area around his ball sack (not sure what this is called) is very swollen at the least. So much that he is unable to sit up to eat properly. But it's been about an hour now and he is still being active and is able to climb and be normal we're trying to restrict him so he doesn't fall and make things worse. I was able to get a photo of it a few minutes ago.

That is extremely swollen! I suggest you try to ice that area (scrotum) for five minutes three times per day. But, if does not get less swollen in a couple days then you need to get him to a vet ASAP. Really, he should see vet now. That really does not look like swelling due to trauma to me...
