My dog's eye is oozing green after a dog park scratch. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 50 lbs

My dog got scratched at the dog park either on or around his eye. Initially it was bleeding a little bit, but it stopped quickly and returned to normal. Then the other day his eye started oozing green mucus, as shown attached. I am unable to stop into a vet's office until Monday at the earliest, so is there anything I can do in the meantime to make sure it does not get worse?

Hello. Honestly, I would try to get Blue into your vet as soon as possible. The green discharge could be an indication that the cornea was scratched & an infection is beginning to develop. Waiting 3 days may allow a simple scratch to develop up into a deep corneal ulcer, something that will be much more difficult to deal with. I hope the eye is fine, but I would not wait to have it looked at. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
