Hello. I wish I could tell you what to do, but you already know what is bad for Oscar. All you can do is intervene as much as you can to hopefully prevent a disc rupture. Keeping Oscar slim & prevent any obesity, & encouraging as much sane exercise as possible ( long leash walks, swimming ) will help to strengthen his back muscles. Always lift Oscar with 2 hands & never let him just dangle from one arm. There is an unwritten rule that if a dachshund makes it past 7 years of age without suffering a back injury, they seem to be out of the woods. There is some truth to this.
