Why is my dog suddenly licking his nose and the floor excessively?

Hi there. Excessive licking, especially of surfaces like the floor or walls, is often associated with nausea or other GI discomfort in dogs. I would recommend taking Simba to the vet for an exam to try and determine if he may be sick or not feeling well.

    This can be a sign of nausea or anxiety. Move him away from the area, and place Peanut in a quiet place to see if that helps the behavior. If it doesn't, have him seen by a vet in the morning. Best of luck.

Hi there. Obsessive licking of surfaces, like walls or floors, is a common sign of nausea or GI distress in dogs. So I would recommend taking Lily to the vet for an exam, and discussing this issue with your veterinarian. Hi there. Excessive licking of surfaces, such as the floor or wall, is often a sign of nausea or GI discomfort in dogs. So it's possible that he's not feeling well at night for some reason. I would suggest talking to your regular veterinarian about this issue. He/she may recommend some testing for possible GI issues, and/or a trial course of an antacid or anti-nausea medication to see if this makes a difference.

You may want to have Sadie examined by a veterinarian. Sometimes dogs will lick the floor when they are nauseous or have an upset stomach. Ingesting non-food items like clumps or hair or dust could be a form of pica which can be a sign of anemia and related to fleas. It is also definitely possible that this is a compulsive behavior she developed at some point, but it would be best to rule out medical problems first.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Lucky. Licking objects can be a sign of nausea in dogs, and it may be he isn't feeling well leading to the licking. I'm sure it's pretty annoying for you to hear this licking over and over, and if he's not showing any other signs, I'd put him in a crate or keep him out of your room for the night so you can get some sleep. In the morning, if he's still doing this behavior, then I would take him into the vet to get checked out. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

I have a 12 year old dachshund who has recently started licking the floor and carpet, is this something I should be concerned about?
Some dogs will do this when they are nauseous so I would monitor Willie closely for any vomiting, drooling or decrease in appetite. I've also seen dogs that tend to lick objects when they have oral pain, so if you think he could be painful you may want to have your vet examine his mouth. It's also possible that this is simply an unusual behavior he has developed and if he otherwise seems perfectly normal I think it's probably also okay to ignore it.

Licking the lips can sometimes be a sign of nervousness, nausea, or even an issue with the teeth or mouth. If he hasn't had a dental cleaning recently, tartar on the teeth or gums could be causing some irritation and thus the licking behavior. Nausea such as from minor GI upset, may also cause drooling, or have signs such as vomiting or diarrhea, but this is not always the case. If it continues or you see any signs of illness/smell bad breath, etc, having your vet take a look is best. If you've changed something in his environment around the time the licking started (new pet, people, items in the house, etc) it could be that he's feeling a bit nervous or uncomfortable as well. Making sure he gets some extra attention and the cause of the nervousness is addressed (IE making sure he has someplace to go rest and hide, using a pheromone diffuser, etc) may help.

That can sometimes happen if your dog has a runny nose which can just be due to minor irritation such as dust or a cold. Your dog may lick at his nose to try and clear it away. I'd just keep an eye on him for now, and if you see any symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, discharge that is discolored or not clear, or he shows general signs of illness such as changes in appetite, fever, lethargy, etc, then bring him into your vet for an exam. Making sure the area he is staying in is dust-free may also help if it is allergy related as well.

Chronic licking is a common sign of nausea, as well as hypersalivation. Nausea can be caused by many conditions such as dietary indiscretion (eating things Bella shouldn't be), intestinal parasites, foreign bodies, and pancreatitis. If Bella is consistently doing this, it is worth it to rule out the conditions above. Your vet may recommend bloodwork, x-rays, and possibly an abdominal ultrasound. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! There can be medical reasons that would explain this behavior or boredom, stress or curiosity. I would recommend having Snow's feces tested for parasites to ensure this is not the problem, as specific treatment is needed to treat different intestinal parasites. A blood panel may be suggested by the veterinarian as well. However, with Snow's age this is likely a behavioral problem. Floor locking is a common self calming behavior. I would consider dog day care once or twice per week or hire a dog walker if you do not have time. If Snow is alone at home, you can relieve the stress or boredom by using safe dog chews or interactive dog toys such as the Kong toys. I hope this helps! Hi and thanks for your question. Licking the air could be a sign of nausea or a self soothing behavior. It's unclear what it could be exactly since it just began, but I would be sure to rule out causes of nausea with your vet first.
