Why is my dog vomiting and refusing food after deworming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 26 days old

We had our dog dewormed yesterday because she wasn’t eating. After a few hours she pooped and started eating small amounts of food. We also gave her milk. This morning though after i fed her bits of fish, and milk, 1 or 2 hrs after she vomitted her food. When i tried to feed her again, she refuses. Is this a side effect of the dewormer? Or should i be concerned?

It could be the dewormer but it could also be Wemwem is sick. Milk isn't good for dogs, it causes GI upset, and that could be causing her symptoms as well. Do not give her any more milk. Withhold for for 4-6 hours, then feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
