My senior cat is picky and won't eat. When should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Hi, my name is Lana Randall. I have a beautiful 8 year old female cat named Esther. I have had her for about as long as how old she is. I use to mainly feed her dry food and only wet cat food as a treat. She is a very picky cat, you see. I started feeding her wet cat food one meal and dry the other about two years ago... In the last few months several months she hardly seems interested in either anymore...she gets excited for the wet food then hardly touches it...i dont know what to do

I recommend to have Esther examined by her veterinarian with some bloodwork to check her kidneys. Cats who have an upset tummy or just don't quite feel right will exhibit this behavior. They are excited about eating and the ritual of getting the food but when it's actually time to eat, they don't feel up to it. It's best to play it safe. There is a blood test called an SDMA which will detect kidney disease before the kidney enzymes elevated. This may be a good test to include in the testing. I hope this helps.
